I think the update by google to chrome extentions and limiting extentions getting access to things they dont need helped but im not sure how intrusive the extension still is. CSGO Trader is a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that is designed to help with CS:GO trading.
My memory also says an update basically gave it a keylogger and access to all websites which could be used for malicious uses but they came out and said it was for "getting info to improve functionality of the extension and to see what people actually use to improve those areas".
